Sourced in Thailand, this stone reflects the classic basalt-hosted deposits of Chanthaburi and Kanchanaburi that supplied much of the world’s blue sapphire in the late twentieth century. Primary production from these fields has declined sharply as the gravels were exhausted, and sizeable stones above three carats are now scarce from local mining. The combination of Thai provenance, strong uniform color, and a finished weight over four carats makes this a difficult size and quality to replace.
