Septarian nodules are unique geological formations, typically spherical or oval, formed around 50 to 70 million years ago. They are created by a combination of volcanic eruptions and marine life. As the ocean receded, mud balls formed from decomposing organic matter and volcanic ash. Cracks, called septaria, emerged in these balls due to dehydration and shrinkage. These cracks were later filled with minerals like calcite and aragonite, forming distinctive patterns often compared to lightning or a spiderweb. This half septarian nodule, with its black appearance, limestone composition, and calcite veins, is a beautiful example of this natural process, showcasing intricate, lightning-like patterns within its structure.
